10 CHURCH OBSERVES ANNERSARYDATE mshop McDowell Will Preach lhefimon in Building Which He Dedicated. The fourth anniversary of the new church building of Hamline M. E. Church, Sixteenth and Allison sigeets, will be observed tomorrow, when Bishop William F. McDowell will preach the sermon. ‘The building was dedicated by Bishop MeDowell. A supper will be given by the church school Tuesday at 6 o'clock, to which all | members of the congregration are in-| vited. E. H. DeGrott, general superin- tendent of the National Baptist Mem- | orial Church, will make the principal | address. There will be a business meet- | ing of the Sunday school board at 7:30 o'clock. The church was organized Juiy 2 1865, in_Union League Hall, 432 Ninth street. The first building, a frame edi- fice, was erecied at the corner of Ninth and P streets and was dedicated in | July, 1866. The second building. of| brick construction, was built in 1873. This building was very greatly enlarged in 1890 and was used until May, 1924 Due to the encroachment of business and the changing population, the church decided upon a new location and bought the site upon which this building now 2 > Towa Avenue Methodist Episcopal h. located at Fourteenth and n streets, merged with the Ham- line congregation. Botween May, 1924, and January 3, 1926, the two congrega- tions worshipped in the Iowa avenue church. There is one charter member of the | old Hamline church still worshipping | with the congregation, and a trustee emeritus, E. D. Godfery, who is a regu- lar attendant at the services. DR. At Fourth Presbyterian Church, Thirteenth and Fairmont streets, Dr. James Miers, pastor, will have for his sermon topic tomorrow morning “A Ruler's A%lonwhed Faith,” and in the evening “The Zero Hour in a Man’s Life.” Sunday school and Bible classes meet at 9:30 am, Christian Endeavor at 7 pm. The pastor will give a lecture on church history Tuesday at 7:30 pm. ‘The Women's Aid Society will meet at 11 am. “The Oldest In- habitant” will be the subject at the prayer service Thursday at 8 o'clock. Taylor has returned from Charleston, S. C. where he preached in the old First (Scotch) Presbyterian Church of that city. NEW YORK, Janual Walter Russell Bowie. rect Protestant Episcopal Church, Broadwa and Tenth street, has announced his decision to decline the office of Bishop Coadjutor of Pennsylvania, to which he was elected on December 18. In his letter of declination he spoke of his rec- ognition of the opportunity offered him and of his appreciation of the friendly attitude of Bishop Thomas J. Garland of Pennsylvania, but he said that he could not leave his work in New York in its present unfinished condition. Dr. Bowie was the third man to be elected to the office of Bishop Coadjutor | by the last regular convention of the diocese and carries with it the right of succession to the bishopric. He is the third man to decline the honor. Both Dr. Henry Knox Sherrill of Boston and Right Rev. Edward M.
