News of Mrs. Cronin’s death came as a shock to President W. Coleman Nev- ils, S. J., of Georgetown and members ot the faculty, with whom Mr. Cronin has been assoclated for the last four years. Funeral services were held this morn- ing in Holy Trinity Church, Boston. Rev. Charles W. Lyons, S. J., former president of Georgetown, and Rev. John Mahoney, S. J., a member of the college faculty, who are in Boston, attended the services. Interment will be in Bos- ton. Mr. Cronin came to Georgetown with Father Lyons upon his appointment as president. He also is in charge of the work of organizing the Georgetown alumni under Father Neviis' direction. o LIEUT. HESS, POLICE VETERAN, EXPIRES Stricken This Morning as Result of Heart Attack—Entered Serv- ice 35 Years Ago. Lieut. William P. Hess of the Metro- politan Police, stationed at the harbor precifict, died at his home, 1809 Thirty- fifth street, early today. Death was due to a heart attack. He suffered with similar trouble and acute indiges- tion Thursday night, but was thought to be rapidly improving until again stricken at an early hour this morning. Born in this city, October 22, 1866, Lieut. Hess followed the carpenter's trade until he became a member of the local police force about 35 years ago. He was first on duty at No. 8 precinct and then served for a number of years at No. 7, also for short periods at Nos. 3 and 9. He was promoted to the grade of lieutenant in 1922. Lieut. Hess was a member of the George C. Whiting Lodge of Masons.
