5 IN SHORT SESSION , Though Changes Are Small, List Shows Slight Gains Over Thursday. BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. Bpecial Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, October 13.—Both do- y mestic and foreign bond prices today | were higher, with a more definite trend than frequently occurs during a half session. ‘The changes, however, were not large. In the popular mining company con- wvertibles they were limited to fractions, though the Barnsdall 6s were up 1'% points. Dodge 6s moved within a nar- Tow area, 4 points under the high of * the week. The Cuban Sugar issues showed some recovery after the recent violent liquidation. Pressed Steel Car convertible 55 were quoted about 20 points lower than on Monday. In the rail list the further advance in Seabord Air Line securities was the feature. The Florida 6s rose 2 points, bringing them to about parity with the main line 6s which were up a point. St. Paul adjustments gained slightly. * Erie Refunding 5s, Missouri Pacific 4s and Western Maryland 4s held at recent prices. In the foreign group, French, Ger- man, Italian and Peruvian bonds were strongest. The new Peruvian loan is ex- pected shortly. The quietness in the market for new issues this week reflects the disposition to withhold offerings until after election, when a considerable amount of new financing, both by corporations and municipalities, is expected. WHEAT IS LOWER. Market Closes Heavy at Slight De- cline—Corn Off. OHICAGO, October 13 (A;),—-—Ex:e]lent crop prospects reported from Argen- Hn: Exe?}fer wltKo weltome rains in domestic wheat territory Southwest and West, led to lower prices today for wheat. Temporarily, however, higher quotations on wheat at Liverpool gave firmness to values here, and there were advices that two cargoes of Argentine wheat st Liverpool had not graded up to standard. On the other hand, ex- “ port business in wheat from North America was larger than of late, total- ing in the last 24 hours 2,000,000 bushels. Wheat closed heavy 7 to 1% net lower, corn also finished % to 1% off, with oats unchanged to 1. down and 107 Washington Stock Exchange SALES. Capital Traction 55—$1,000 at 100%; $500 at 100%;. BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN. | Special Dispateh to The Star, | NEW YORK, October 13.—Notwith- standing that today's abbreviated ses- sion came between the Columbus day holiday and the week end suspension of operations, the curb market was fea- tured by increased activity and many new highs in the issue which continued to hold speculative attraction to the ele- ment favoring further price apprecia- tion, gains in a number of high-priced issues were impressive, while others in the popular priced category made fur- ther progress. * The outstanding leader was Royal Baking Powder. Opening at 353, it compared with the previous final of 335, and subsequently sold at its highest in history at 390. Announcement was made of the proposal of directors to recapital- ize the financial structure, which will result in a stock dividend of 700 per cent and the issuance of eight new shares of no par value for each of the present $100 par. At the same time stock owners are to be given the privi- lege of subscribing to shares in the company's two principal subsidiaries, the E, W. Gillett Co., Ltd., and the Maize Co. Goebel common shot forward - more than 7 points to a new high record and rumors were current. of a possible affili- ation with Hygrade Food Products, which has been one of the outstand- ing of the features on the side of ad- vance recently. Nothing official along this line, however, so far has been men- tioned and many were inclined to place little credence in the rumor because of the extensive programs of expansions carried on by both. New tops also were recorded in E. W. Bliss, Sparks Withington, Neisner Bros., A. C. Horn, Interstate Department Stores and Checker Cab Manufactur- ing, gains ranging from fractions to more than 3 points. Among the oils Illinois Pipe Line was in demand, fflining some 5 points; cop- pers were featured by continued ac- tivity in the new Andes Copper Mining, although the price was little changed, Mo Pac 53 A 65.... COTTON IS STEADY IN TRADING TODAY October Delivery Shows Advance . of Ten Points Future. Close Lower. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, October 13.—The cotton market opened barely steady at an ad- » | vance of 10 points on October, but gen- erally unchanged to 11 points lower. Overholiday firmness in Liverpool seemed to be more than offset by the failure of the weather news to show any frost in the cotton belt since the close of Thursday, and there was heavy liquidation during the early trading. December sold off to 19.05 and March to 18.95, making net declines of about :13 to 18 points on'the more active posi- ons.
