REAL ESTATE. 'THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON. B C, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 1998. REAL ESTATE. 19 SEEK SUPERVISION OF LOAN SOCETIES Maryland Legislature Will Act on Bill to Regulate B. and L. Bodies. #Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, September 29.—A bill 40 establish State supervision of the ‘building and loan associations £ M: Jand will be presented at the ses the State Legislature which starts in JJanuary, it was announced this week by the legislative committee, Maryland Banl\m Association. A bill being prepared by the legisla- #ive committee of the bankers' associa- &ion will provide for the following: The establishment of a State official 40 whom reports are to be made at reg- alar intervals by officials of building and loan associations concerning the financial standing of their respective rganizations. The granting to this official of au- thority to make any examination of the books of the building and loan associa- gions deemed necessary. There are about 1,200 building asso- ciations in the State of Maryland, with £200.000,000 on deposit, 90 per cent of these in Baltimore city. “There should be some supervision over these institutions,” backers of the| plans say. ALONG REALTY ROW | News Briefs And Comment Election of officers of the associate di- yision of the Washington Real Estate Board will be held at the annual meet- ing of the division Monday cvening at 8 o'clock at_the Wardman Park Hotel. Lloyd F. Gaines, chairman, whose term expires . with the meeting, will preside. At this meeting the chairman, vice chairman, secretary #nd member of the arbitration com- mittee, as _well as voting delegates representing the mssociate division, will be elected. Keen competition is expected in the selection of two as- sistants to serve with the appraisal committee of the Real Estate Board for terms of six months. These positions, Mr. Gaines pointed out today, offer an unusual op- portunity to the two assistants, who sit ‘with the board’s appraisal committee in its deliberations on all appraisals made by the board. The election meeting will be followed by a buffet supper and in- formal smoker. * K ok ok What will be the apartment house of the future? Just as the modern home stands to- day in striking contrast to the old house, with its poorly arranged and equipped kitchen, large, wasteful rooms and limit- ed facilities, presided over by a house- wife who dedicated her life to scrub- bing and cleaning, so will the apart- ment house of the future offer to its tenants those refinements contemplated to make it an inviting place in which to live, through choice and not neces- sity, in the opinion of Harry M. Bralove, local real estate operator and builder. “In the future,” he prophesies, “it will not be unusual to see apartment houses located in outlying sections of the city in settings of dignified suburban club atmosphere. Many acres of land will be devoted to one development, with golf, tennis, swimming and other recreational facilities available, in addition to fa- cilities for the care &and storage of ai tomobiles of ten- Ar. L. F. Gaines. nts. “The apartment $house development of the future will take on a semi- hotel character, where every wish and whim of the m¢ m. M. Bra tenant may be gratified through the lifting of a tele- phone receiver. Each unit will be so designed as to afford the maximum of sunshine, exposure, ventilation and out- Jook,” he declares. * kK ¥ Regret at the death this week of avid J. Dunigan, a fellow realtor, was xpressed on behalf of the members of he Washington Real Estate Board in a esolution adopted this week by the xecutive committee of the organization. A memorial adopted by the commit- fee stated that Mr. Dunigan was an ex- ample to the young men of the board in that his “vision, courage and de- termination brought him success in an mnusual degree while still in the prime of life,” and adding that “his con- structive ability has been an important Jactor in the upbuilding of the city.” Attributes of Decoration.
