This screen had been taken from stones originally in a tower which fell after standing more than 100 \ vears. It will be used in the proposed | chapel of St. Thomas' Church whenever | the same is built. | Suggests Inscription. | Bishop Knight, on giving the stone. suggested the following inscription for the brass tablet to be erected beside the #ione when placed in the chapel: “This stone formed part of the “Ethel- bert Tower” in the Norman Abbey Church of the Monastery of St. Augus- tine, Canterbury. In the nineteenth century it was used in the stone screen behind the high altar of the cathedral. On the removal of the screen it was returned to St. Augustine’s College by the dean and chapter of the cathedral and is now sent by the college to St. Thomas’ Church in Washington as a token of unity in Christ.” At a recent meeting the vestry ac- cepted this gift with many thanks and much appreciation as also the suggested Inscription to be placed on a brass tablet beside it.
