HEFFERNAN. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 10.—It was another day of active speculation on the Curb Exchange. Numerous issues were carried forward into new high ground, while profit-taking resulted in minor re- | | actions in recent favorites. The up- ward movement, predominated, however, and there were no indications that the market had reached the stage where a sharp major reaction was in order. Fox Theater class A was one of the most active specialties, moving forward into new high ground in sympathy with the exeited speculation in this class. of shares on the Stock Exchange. That the company is to figure prominently in one or another of the mergers involving theatrical and amusement companies, despite denials, was evident by the character of the buying, although the price appreciation was limited. Radio and related issues were in de- mand again. De Forest Radio was heavily bought around the 16 level, and Fleishman above 11. Columbia Grapho- phone was becoming increasingly diffi- cult to obtain around.current prices, but there were no new developments con- cerning the closer affiliation of this company with Radio Corporation of America. A number of the utilities gave evi- dence of important accumulation, no- tably United Gas & Improvement up over 3 points, Puget Sound Power & Light up 2 to a new high at 97, Electric Bond & Share securities and several of the lower priced members. United Light & Power issues did not respond in the manner that might be expected to the announ ement it had acquired voting ntrol of American Light & Traction A break of more than 8 points in Prairie Pipe made up the feature in the Standard Oil group. This might have reflected uneasiness over the future div- idend payment, but the volume of of- ferings was small, Specialties that were reflecting un- derlying strength in their market pos tions on the outlook for increased earn- ings included Natfonal Sugar of New Jersey up 5 points to a new high; Young Spring & Wire up almost 2 points to a new top. NEW YORK, September 10.—There | were indications today that the rise in the bond market, which has been sub- stantial during the past two weeks, had halted. The level of prices is now about half way between the year's high and the low for many active issues. On the basis of current money rates, a com-, parison of yields to money is less fa- | vorable than it was in the Spring. | Another influence is the resumption | of new financing.
