Wolfgang Ruckdaeschel, 76, for many years in the custom tailoring business In this city, died at his residence, 817 L street, yesterday after a short illness. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Mr. Ruckdaeschel was born in Wun- <ledel, Bavaria, and came to this city in 1874. He was a member of Armin- ius Lodge, F. A M., and of the Verein Bayern, Columbia Section, No. of this city. Ballou, a retired In- fantry officer, who served as a major general in the National Army during the World War and commanded the 92d Di- vision in the Meuse-Argonne offensive and other important engagements, died at his home in Spokane, Wash,, Mon- day, according to War Depfinment ad- vices. Copeland, editor and publisher of the Newport News Daily Press and Times- Herald, and former president of the Vir- ginia Press Assoclation, died suddenly at his h(:mc here last night. Copeland was 72 years of age 'md | burn in North Carolina, the son of | Winfield Scott Copeland and Kath- | erine E. Randolph Copeland. He re- celved his college training at the Ugi- | versity of Virginia. His first newsnaper work was on the Peteresburg, Index-Appeal. From there he was called to Norfolk, Va., as city editor of the Norfolk Virginian. He held that position for several years and then purchased an interest in the Dan- ville Register. Eight years later he sold his interest in that paper and purchased interests in the Richmond State, an eve- ning paper of Richmond. In 1896 he sold his interest in the Richmond State and became a member of the staff of the Richmond Times, then owned by James Bryan.
