KEYSERLING TELLS REASON FOR NOTE Ludwig, Author, Replies to Coun- tryman's Expression of Dislike Sent to Hostess. Br the Associated Press NEW YORK. March 1.—Count Key- serling has explained his dislike for Emil Ludwig, fellow German author, as neither political nor religious, but per- son: al. After publication of a_note sent to Mrs. Willlam Randolph Hearst declin- ing an invitation to a luncheon she ‘was giving for Mr. Ludwig. Count Key- serling wired his managers from Cali- fornia: “My attitude toward Emil Ludwig is simply the result of his inaccurate and unjustified statements in his book on Bismarck about the Princess Bismarck my mother-in-law. Ludwig refused tc change the text in his book after being informed of the true facts.” The New York Times today prints a message it received from Mr. Ludwig who is in Detroit" “If Count Keyserling deems it proper in a letter to an American lady to ex- press without reason his antipathy to- ward another German author. my training as a common citizen forces me to decline to have any controversy with this nobleman while in a foreign coun- try where we are both guests.” In his biography. “Bismarck: The Story of a Fighter,” Mr. Ludwig calls the home of the Iron Chancellor an “uncouth and unspiritual “household.” He says the Princess Bismarck was an unduly pious and forever sick woman | whose character was the direct an- tithesis of that of her husband. Ludwig pictures the Princess Bis- marck 2s gpowimg “gmke passionate” as she rea¢hied old agé and mentions one instance where she smashed a giass in defense of her husband and another where she declared of some of her husband’s enemies that the “should m_m’ for them with the leg of a PREFERS SOFT SHIRTS. mn'« to Wales Protests “Starched Fronts” in Public Assemblies.
