BY CHARLES F. SPEARE. Spoclal Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, February 14.—Follow- ing the long holiday which gave the in- vesting public and traders an oppor- tunity to analyze the market situation, there were irregular changes in ponds today without evidence that underiying conditions are different than those that had been affecting values for some t The new offerings were small, which a matter of satisfaction to those who would like to see a period of reduced issues, while those bonds siill unsold are taken out of the market. There was a somewhat better tone to several of the speculative that have been attracting attention of late. Cuba Cane Sugar 8s advanced a point and a half. Hudson Coal 5s, after declining a point, recovered to Saturday’s closing; Pathe Exchange 7s were up 4% points at the opening, to 69, and then fluctu- ated widely on active trading. The sea- board 6s were heavy, but the adjust- me somewhat firmer. Issues Lower. Goodyear U. § Mudber 55 and Sincleir issues were low-r. J. Kayser 5'.s advanced '.. The Armour 4'. and gained more ground and carried the Morris & Co 41.s along with them. There was said to be good buylng in the local tractions although prices were softer with the traction situation on the eve of developments that may ma- terially affect values of all the stocks and bonds concerned. Denver 5s were higher. There has been considerable liquidation in the va- rious St. Paul bonds that are to be ex- changed for new securities. New low prices are being quoted on the Iowa Central and Minneapolis and St. Louis senfor issues, with holders of these bonds losing patience over this long drawn out receivership. The German public utilities were un- usually active. Berlin Electric 6'.8 cove ered a range of a point and at ore time sold as high as 98. Some of the State and municipal issues were higher. Industrials Undisturbed. The industrials <o ‘ar have nct heen affected by the ser: industrial situa- tion with the threatened strike of a large body of German laborers. Italian municipal and industrial bonds, Japanese muncipals, French city issues and the government loans of Brazil and Pern were prominent in the day's dealings for the strength they display-d. ‘There was a good market for highe arade public utilities. i‘acific Gas re- funding 5s were up % to a new high price. U. S Government bonds were higher and the Treasury issues lower. NEW YORK PRODUCE. . NEW YORK. SHOWS DROP Decline of 373,000,000 Pounds Re- ported in 1927 From Total of Preceding Year. Bs the Associated Prees. Department of Agriculture figures show the production of meats in the United States declined 373,000,000 pounds in 1927 in comparison with the preceding year, the respective totals being olo 872,000,000 pounds and 17,245,- 000.00( ‘The per capita consumption .di from 1428 to 139.3 pounds. The partment of Agriculture in announcing the figures sald the result was wholly due to restricted supply of meats. The pork supply increased by 352.000,000 pounds, but ‘beef decreased 632,000,000 pounds, or 8'> per cent. Exports have fallen sharply in the last four years, the re] year's shipments of 3! "000000 poun: being approximately 25 per cent below the figure for 1926, while in 1923 slight- ly over a billlon pounds of American meat were sold in foreign markets. Last year's imports of 114,000,000 pounds were double those of 1926 and three times as great as in 1925. The situation is bad. the department observed, noting the anomalous condi- tion of constantly dwindling herds sup- plying more beef each year, indicating that the herds are being consumed, and | not their natural increases. The slight increase in the lamb and mutton supply since 1922 has been lit- tle more tI enough to keep pace with ithe advancing population, the report added, explaining the opportunities at hand for sheep rai: Total pork produmon not including lard, increased 4.3 per cent. A decline of 25 per cent in pork exports was noted, however. Ancient Door Restored. An ancient door belonging to Elgin Cathedral at Elgin, Scotland, is to be re-erected in its original position in the cathedral ruins. The door is now in use in an adjacent building known as the Bishop's Palace, and a local donor has offered to move it and erect an- other in its place in the Bishop's Palace. se— Suit for 1798 Estate Lost.
