Spocial Dispatch to The Star, BALTIMORE, January 28.—The dio- cesan convention of the Protestant | Episcopal Church at its session_ here this week at Grace and St. Church became involved in a heated discussion as to whether the “Thirty- nine Articles of Faith” should be re- tained in the prayer book. Judge Henry D. Harlan offered a motion favoring the retention of the articles. He said at the general con- vention in 1925 a movement had been ted to abolish the 39 articles and that he wished the Maryland conven- tion to go on record at this time as opposing_any such change. Rev. Dr. Arthur B. Kinsolving of Old St. Paul's Church, characterized the argument of Judge Harlan as “le- galistic.” “Gentlemen, this is a living church.” Dr. Kinsolving said. “The Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed are the foundation on which the doctrine of the church rests. The 39 articles, however, are often popularly regarded as the creed of the chburch. i tive and bitter periods in the church. “In the general convention only one diocese voted against the proposal to remove the 39 articles. In this day and age the convention realized all church people desired to go back to the simple faith of the Apostles' and e Creeds “These creeds were the basis of the Ni Lausanne conference. at Lausanne had attempted to weave together the 39 articles and the West- minster Confession of the Presbyterian Church, where would their efforts to- ward unity of spirit among Christian- ity have been? “We have got back to the great cen- tralities of faith, and in this age we must hold to them and pass them on to the coming generation.” PLAN BOO A booster meeting of the Cardinal Gibbons Institute Club will be held at St. Augustine’s Church, Fifteenth street ! between L and M streets, February 5 at 5:30 p.m. All organizations interested in the education of colored youth and the general public are invited.
