HUGHES DIES IN SYRAGUSE Former Public School Official of District Succumbs to Heart Attack. Dr. Percy Meredith Hughes, 83 years old. superintendent of the Syracuse yesterday afternoon. He was stricken while at work in his office yesterday morning. Born in Washington, February 3, 1864, a son of Carlton and Elizabeth Ann Etchison Hughes, he recelved his early education in public schools of the District of Columbia, graduating from Washington high schools in 1881.
