Christmas Week in Capital Marked by the Traditions Of Widely Separated Climes Dinin‘ and Gift-civing Feature Celebrations in Diplomatic Circles—American Home Exemplified at White House. BY SALLIE V. H. PICKETT. HRISTMAS week in the Capital, significant not only of the Amer- can methods of celebration, but with the customs and traditions of 54 other countries carried out, is truly an interesting place. There is feasting and dining and exchange of gifts in almost all of the embassies and Jegations, while in the President’s house there is the best sible example of how the season is celebrated in an American home {:' Christian family. More strictly than at any other time of the year the Chief Executive and the First Lady of the Land devote themselves to | the more domestic phases oi life, leaving the official world to wait on | them until the New Year dawns. AST evening, with their son beside them and surrounded by dignitaries, the President touched the button that lighted, the municipal Christmas tree and listened in rapt attention to the sacred music. Today they will attend service in the First Congregational Church, and will spend the day quietly within the White House. There have been the usual gay decorations there suggestive of the season, and Mrs. Coolidge has prepared br the exchange of family gifts, with none of the executive household for- | THEIR privacy ceases with the week, and Monday, January 2, the Presi- dent and Mrs. Coolidge will hold their annual reception to officials, both (omfl: and native, and to the great American pub) they will hold the reception in honor of the judiciary New Year they will resume the series of dinners with me cabinet, the ladies of that august branch of official life w begin thew receptions or days at home, and from the New Year on until Ash Wed-| nesday, February 22, there will be a great rush of gayety, with important social events overlapping and conflicting in an amazing ma r RIDAY night, while the Secret of War and Mrs. mer dance in honor of their debutante daughter, Miss Alice lmmk\ Davis, another dance, that of Mr..
