Puzzled and harrassed like a man in a_dream, he is coherent | in only one thing—the steadfastness | with which he maintains that his name is William F. Brown. He de- scribed himself once to Dr. Morris Hyman of the hospital staff as “30 years old, a good Pennsylvania Dutch boy and a soldier.” Since then, how- ever, he has affirmed and denied hav- ing fought in the Civil War so many times that it is impossible to deter- mine whether or not he is a veteran. According to Dr. Hyman, the pa- tient is at least 70 years old, probably older, and suffering from senile de- mentia. Dressed in trousers. bedroom slippers and undershirt only, the old man was found at 2 o'clock yesterday morning by Patrolman L. E. Hazard, who took him to the ninth precinct station. He was later removed to the hospital. When questioned today he gave his age.as “getting onto 40,” and said the Seventh street car line passed his home.
