The bonds are priced at 93% to yleld 65.41 per cent and were reported oversubscribed. A new issue of $2,000,000 of the Fore- man Trust & Savings Bank as trus- tee 5% per cent first mortgage par- ticipation certificates, series “A’” due August 1 1937 is being offered by A. G. NEW YORK, August 29.— e 4 o5 4343181 o n M 48 vre-war Dreswar. .. .... nd Privat Banl Farben. ... o Gellachaft . el SHADING IS NOTED INBOND MARKET Snap Gone in High-Grade New Rail Issues—Stocks’ Weakness Is Felt. NEW YORK, August 29.—There was quite a shading of bond prices today in a market of fair size. Some of this was due to the shifting from one issue to another where there appeared to be an advan- tage in income and in appreciation prospects Temporarily the snap has gone ou of the murket for those high-grade new railroad bonds that featured the trading of a week or two ago. A number of the 41 per cent which sold at a premium of about a point were back to par today. Union Pacific 4158 were a half point under their re- cent price. The old legals were ir- regular, but all limited in thefr fluc- tuations to small fractions. Second Liberties Down. The most significant change in the United States Government list was the decline in the Second Liberty 414s, which mature November 15, to the lowest price of the year, or about 1 point under the best of the year. The long-term Treasuries were firm. st was taken in 1,000,000 Boston and Maine first mortgage 58, at 93%. Some of the weakness in other bonds, notably the Erie new 5s, which were back to about their issue price, was due to the purchasg of these bonds with the proceeds of* the others. The Boston and Maine fs became active selling up to about 94. They are not callable except at $107% for the next 20 years, which is a strong point in eir favor. thln the industrial list the effect of a weak market for stocks was shown in lower prices for the Barnsdall 6s, Dodge 6s, International Paper 6s, United States Rubber bs, Goodyear 58 and a suspension of demand for others that have lately been under ac- cumulation. Positions Are Maintained. A dozen or more foreign issues which touched new high record prices Jast week were able today to maintain their position in spite of quiet market conditions. There was nothing very distinctive in the day's movements, which were confined to the French, Belgian and Ttalian groups where the greatest strength was exhibited, al- though Peruvian, Polish and some of the Germans were steady. The effect of so many poor July railroad statements on the market for semi-investment railroad bonds has been to create dullness rather than reaction. It is quite remarkable that the junfor bonds of some of the Southern lines which had shown sensational losses in the next earnings for the seven months of the year stood up. MOVEMENT MIXED IN CURB DEALINGS Newmont Minings Feature on Bullish Side—Public Util- ities Are Heavy. BY WILLIAM F. HEFFERNAN. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, August 29.—The un- settled market condition which ex- isted at the close of last week on the Curb Exchange. undermined specu- lative sentiment as trading started today. The result was a highly irreg- ular movement of prices, with the selling offsetting strength in a number of individual issues. Trading started in the new $30,942.- 000 issues of Boston & Maine Rail- road first mortgage gold bonds, secies “AC,” 6 per cents. The issue was offered for public subscription at 93% and Interest, yielding 5.41 per cent. It immediately sold at a _premium of almost a point. but failed to hold all the gain. Curtiss Aero, selling at new high prices for the year, still reflected re- cent achievements in the progress of aviation, although it was difficult to see how they were to result in any immediate improvement in earnings. The speculative element, seeking new leaders, found one in Newmont Mining. As an assets proposition it was thought to be entitled to higher prices and sold up sharply into new high ground above 97. 2 The spectacular Johns Manville ap- peared to have absorbed the heavy profit taking sales which developed after last week’s sensational advance, but offerings again made their ap- pearance in the afternoon. Durant Motors continued in demand above 11%. Péublic utilities no longer maintained their position on the side of higher prees. Realizing sales were heavy in a number of instances, notably in Blackstone Valley Gas & Electric, Em- pire Gas & Fuel and Electric In- vestors. American Brown Boveri Founders shares dropped to new low prices for the year, reflecting the disappointing outlook for the company. No attempt was made to rally the market for the oil shares, which con- tinued to be influenced by the un- favorable developments last week in the industry WHEAT PRICES DROP ON LARGE ESTIMATES By the Associated Pre CHICAGO, August 29.—Sharp down- turns in wheat values took place early today owing for the most part to big stimates of the yield in Canada. Fa- vorable harvest weather there was re- ported. Opening 8 to 1% off, wheat prices later underwent a materfal fur- ther sethack. Corn and oats were also ‘weak, corn starting at % to % down, and subsequently continuing to decline. Provisions were firm. One leading expert who has just re- turned to Chicago from a tour of the . | Canadian prairie provinces reported that the wheat crop there would be probably more than 400,000,000 bushels. He said that had it not been for rust and frost the outturn could easily reach 500,000,000 bushels, the stand was #0 uniformly good. As a result of rust and frost, however, the crop is spotted throughout large sections, atchewan and Manitoba in par- u and Southern Hemis- phere advices today in regard to the wheat crop outlook were also a disap- pointment to friends of higher prices. Improved weather was noted both in 3 | Great Britrt and in continental Eu- D. C., Curb Market today: Saleg In hundreds. % iperpow B 3 Asi0 Gas & El..
