Russell Harrison Scott, 60 years old. mer newspaper man, and widely known in political circles during the many years he resided here, died in a sanitarium in Baltimore, early today er a long illness, Mr. Scott had been connected with the Chicago News, the old Chicago Chronicle and the Washington Bureau of the old New York Herald. He also was at one time secretary to former ov. Frank O. Lowden of Illinois, to the latq (ieorge Alfred Townsend, who wrote political articles under the name Born in Indianapolis, Ind., Mr. Scott s educated in the public schools here. Afterward he came to this ity and worked as a page at the pitol, later attending Jefferson Col- 'ge at Washington, Pa., of which his ndfather, the late Rev. John Witherspoon Scott, was president. Im- mediately following his graduation, e was employed in the Chase Na- tional Bank, New York, afterward ‘ntering the newspaper profession. He had resided in this city since 1913, He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Hobart Brooks, and a niece, Miss KKatharine Brooks of this city,and an aunt, Mrs. Norman H. Strong of Glen- dale, Calif. HERRMANN, 90, BOTTLER, SUCCUMBS [ Founder of Plant Here Was Native of Germany and Formerly Con- ‘l ducted Bakery Here. ! John F. Herrmann, 90 years old | founder of the Herrmann Bottling | Works, died at his home, 1002 I street | southeast, yesterday. He had been in! failing health for several months. Mr. Herrmann was born in Germany and came to the United States in 185 settling in Baltimore. After residing there about a y he moved to this city, where he established a_bakery He gave up this business in 1873 and established the Herrmann Bottling Works, continuing as president until about 16 years ago, when he relin quished the office to his eldest son August G. Herrmann, who heads the business, although the father alway: maintained an active interest in the factory. Mr. Herrmann was married in 1861. His wife died in 1907. He is survived by three sons, August G., Charles F. and F. A. Herrmann; three daughters, Mrs. E. Schiotterbeck, Mrs. Claug Schwartz and Miss Margaret K. Herr- mann; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of this city. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. H.
