Wall Street Features NEW YORK, February 19 (Spe- cial).—Calling of the outstanding 7 per cent preferred stock of the Col- lins & Afkman Co. had no effect upon prices of the common stock, because of the fact that it also is convertible into common in the ratio of two shares for each one of preferred. Because of the fact that the common was selling around its highest price of 761, it was very evident that none of the preferred would be turned in for redemption at 110, but would be converted. The preferred, amounting to $5,000,000, was brought out in March, 1926, at 101%. Faflure of directors of New York Canners to act upon preferred divi- dends at this time came as no sur- prise. It had been anticipated that, owing to adverse trade conditions, the policy of directors from now until the outlook _improves will be to conserve cash. It was reported the preferred dividend would not be considered until June, when a better idea of the crop Situation would be available. Wall Street Briefs NEW YORK, February 19 UP.— Growing belief that Canada has tered its greatest period of prosperity is sald in the financlal district to bo one f the important factors in the Tecent market rise in shares of the Canadian Pacific. Its business em- braces railroads, hotels, telegraph service, land sales and steamship lines, ~ Earnings for 1926 are esti- mated at about $15 a share on its £260,000.000 stock, which would be the best since 1917, In 1925 earnings were equal to $12.52 a share. The recapitalization plan of Jullus Kayser & Co. was approved by stock- Lolders yesterday. Interstate Iron & Steel had net in- come of $300,273 for 1926, against 1,108,104 for the year before. This is equal to $61.47 a share on the pre- ferred, against $38.93 a share in 1925, when a larger amount of prefe was outstanding. Another shipment of $2,000,000 in gold has left Japan on the steamship Korea for the United States. Colline & Aikman has called its outstanding cumulative convertible 7 per cent preferred stock for redemp- tion on May 1 at $110 and accrued dividends.
