The nomination of Ralph B. harty as people’ counsel of the Public Utilities Co indorsed last night by aden of the Federation of Citizens' Associa tions, while the organization which Yaden addressed. the Brookland ens’ As: tion, meeting at Ma sonic Hall welfth and - Monroe streets northeast, voted to refer Mr Ficharty's name to the association’s legislative committee for further con sideration hefore passing judgment Mr. Yaden admitted that he h great knowledge of Mr. Flehart qualifications, but said that he favored his candidacy thus far because he h heard no derogatory reports of hi fitness. L. M. McLean, chairman of the association’s legislative committee, introduced a motion, which was car- ried, to have the committee examine the qualifications of all the nominees for the Public Utilities Commission. Mr. Yaden urged the co-operation of individual citizens' assoclations in civic matters affecting the city as a whole. He inveighed against the pas- sage of resolutions by various citizens’ associations without due previous con- sideration or later active support. Mondell, former Wyoming Representative, will deliver the princi- pal address at the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the founding of the Washington Chamber of Com- merce at the Mayflower Hotel Feb- ruary 24. Mr. Mondell, who resides in Wash- ington and takes an active part in District affairs, will aiscuss the value of the work of the chamber in past years and point out opportunities for advancement of the civic and business interests in the Capital. Martin A. Leese, president of the chamber, will open the banquet pro- gram with a brief talk and will pre- side. Dr. William Mather Lewis, president of George. Washington Uni- versity, has been selected as toast- master and also will make a brief ;:dress on the activities of the cham- r.
