January exports from the United States were $419,000,000 and imports were $359,000,000, leaving a f: trade balance of $60,000,000. The figures for January, 1926, as given out today by the Commerce De- partment, were $396,836,000 in exports and $416.752,000 in imports, which brought about an unfavorable trade balance for that month of $19,916,000. The gold movement for January was strongly in favor of the United States, imports being $61,962,000 and exports $14,890,000. In January, 1926, ex- ports of gold were $3,087,000 and im- yorts were $19,351,000. Silver exports during January were ,388,000 against $9,763,000 in Janu- ary, 1926, while silver imports were $5,401,000 against " against $5,763,000. McLachlen and the members of the general conven- tion commtitee which is arranging for the annual meeting of the District Bankers' Association at Hot Springs in June, held its first meeting yester- day at the F street headquarters. New Step in Dutch Market Case. President Robert V. Fleming of the Riggs National Bank, who is chair- man of the creditors’ reorganization commitiee of the Old Dutch Mark Co., has sent letters to all creditors asking them to assign their claims to the committee. The other members of the committee are Michael A, Kane, George T.. Starke; president of the National Bank of Washington; John Muncie, jr., Maxwell Brandwen, J. Freedman, John Dolph and am Liebman. It will be noted in addition to the two bankers, the committee includes men very prominent in the market district The assignment of creditors’ claims to a committee is the usual procedure in such cases. As soon as this has been received and the remaining $12,000 in preferred stock subscribed, the receivers will act to turn the market company over to a new firm, which will continue the business. Bank to Increase Capital. The Second National Bank is plan- ning to increase its capital from $500,: 750,000. Under the proposed plan the shareholders have the pri lege of subscribing for the additional capital stock at $175 a share, in the proportion of one share for each two shares now held. Any stock not taken will be disposed of by the directors at or in excess of $175 per share.
