'W YORK, February 11.—Pro- ceedings on the Stock Exchange today indicated that the market more and more was getting back to normal, fol- Jowing the excitement occasioned by cent dmnl:mnwnli in the low-priced e most part, it transactions omew. on the da preceding, but with the undertone con- tinuing strong. de, divided-paying rails, gWn their ability to move ard Ihdependent of what was hap- ing on the issue influenced by mer- » possibilities, were bought with con- nce again today. Placing of General Motors common on a regular $3 annual basis compared with the previous $7 rate, came as no surprise to Wall Street. The more conservative clement was inclined to view this action as another piece of zood news, long expected, out of the way. General Motors opened down fractionally, but was taken up in the fternoon, getting well above the pre- vious final. Whether or not the recent strength in Hudson Motor was a re- sponse to reports that plans were in progress for control passing to another prominent interest, was a question. Hudson was carrigd down two points following denial of these rumors, but rallied Jater in the day. It was logical to assume that the General Motors action opened the way for larger distributions to du Pont share owners, but thig failed to be re- flected in the market for du Pont stock. Among specialties Interna- tional Harvester continued a feature, getting to new high ground still influ- enced by merger rumors. Baldwin Locomotive failed to main- tain the place of prominence it held vesterday, but it was only natural for profit-taking sales to make themselves felt following the spectacular rise of the past two days. Steadiness of Liverpool quotations on wheat today, notwithstanding in- creased shipments from Argentina at tracted considerable attention here Argentine exports for the week to taled 6,834,000 bushels, against only 3,686,000 bushels a year ago. The fact, however, that Australian shipments were smaller acted as something of an offset. Bears in the wheat market today were disposed to stress apparent smallness of export business from North America. Indications of only poor domestic milling demand also was emphasized, with assertions likewiss current that the main element of strength in wheat is with holding of supplies. o BUTTER UNSETTLED.
