DR. CLARK RESIGNS | FROM PULPIT HERE First Presbyterian Pastor i to Leave February 1 for Tryon, N. C. Rev. Dr. J. Brittan Clark, for 13 years pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, on John Marshall place near C street, has msl%nnd to become effec- tive February 1. Dr. Clark is leaving the local church to assume the pastorate of the Congregational Church at Tryon, N. C. His resignation was accepted at a congregational meeting Thurs. day night. It was stated that the strenuous work undergone by Dr. Clark during the past year and the fact that the church 1s about to begin the erection of a new building on 2 site at Massachusetts avenue, Thirt sixth and Garfleld streets, prompted him to resign. He felt that looking after the work of the new church would be too much of a physical task. Dr. Clark came to Washington 'rom Detroit, was moderator of the Washington Presbytery and is re- garded as one of the ablest ministers in_the city. Rev. Dr. Dougias Putnam Birnle will occupy the pulpit of the local church pending the securing of a min- ister to succeed Dr. k. Plans are under way for the break- ing of the ground within a few weeks for the new church, which will for a time be a temporary structure. NEW CANON TO DFLIVER SERMON AT CATHEDRAL Rev. Edward S. Dast, who is al- ready in Washington, will visit this city on January 23, and will preach every evening for six days in four selected churches of the city, namely, Epiphany, St. Mark’s, St. Margaret’s and Christ Church in Georgetown. Every afternoon a conference will be held in the same churches, conducted elther by the crusader or by sorge one selected by the crusade committee.
