Sends Notes to The Hague Signatories Seeking: Help Against Smuggling.’ S Efforts to curb the fllicit drug traf-! fic in the United States are being di- rected toward foreign channels in or- der to control drug importations at the source of manufacture. The State Department today made public identic communications to all the foreign powers signatory to the zue convention on drug traffic con- . which pointed out that the bull of the drugs illegally sold in the United States were of foreign origin It was further asserted that the do- mestic sources of supply had been almost_entirely shut off by effective legal control. “It is believed that the problem of the United States would be vastly | simplified,” it added, “If there were | established in various manufacturing { countries a system of control over | narcotic drugs and the factorles for their production similar to that in effect in this country.” Attention of the powers was called { to a simllar effort “to enlist co-opera ! tion of other powers signatory to the | Hague convention,” made by the | Washington Government last October. | The announcement made no mention | | of replies recefved.
