ONWEATHERNEWS Closes 1 to 13-4 Cents Off. Corn Market Suddenly Turns Weaker. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, September 4.—Clearing skies in Canada and sudden weak- ness of the corn market gave a ma- terlal setback to wheat values todam. The movement of newly hu'\'med wheat in Canade, already large, is expected to show an increase. Clos- ing quotations on wheat were heavy, 1 to 1% net lower, corn 5 to 13 down; oats varying from 1§ decline to 1§ gain, and provisions un- changed to 25 off. 1% Lowest prices yet this season were reached today both by September and % December deliveries of wheat. The Canadian growers’ pool was reported to be active on the selling side of the market at Winnipeg, and there also was brisk selling in Chicago that appeared to come from sources in the Northwest. Meanwhile no export business whatever was in evidence, and speculative buying power was at a minimum, owing to the holiday here Monday and at Winnipeg as well. Besides, a good-sized increase of the United States visible supply total on Tuesday appeared probable. Special significance was attached ~1925--26— Figh. Low. NEW YORK, September 4 (#).— French government revenue from all | MARYLAND CROPS HURT BY BIG AUGUST RAINS Iltufln‘ Fruits, Melons, Hay, Grain, Tomatoes," Tobacco and Early Corn Were Damaged. Special Dispatch to The Star. BALTIMORE, September 4.—Crops in Maryland sustained injury during August, according to a statement given out today by John S. Dennee, Federal crop statistician for Maryland. Rain fell in coplous quantities overall the Gtate between the 11th and the 24th. In more or less degree maturing fruits, pl.rtlcullrly peaches, were damaged; as’ also were canta | loupes, hay, grain in shock, tomatoes, and in some sections tobacco and early corn. Farmers especially stress the dam- age to wheat and oats in shock, and to tomatoes by scalding on the pros- trated vines in the hot sunshine which followed close on the heels ot of the long wet spell. Late corn and late potatoes bene- fited. Pastures and grasses were re- vived and afe looking well, accord: ing* to the report, but the heavy rains were very hard on tomatoes, prostrating the vines, and only a light yield is looked for. Plowing for Fall wheat is about half accomplished in some parts of FINANCTAL. Financial Highlights of Past Week Brought Out in Nutshell by Statistics NEW YORK, Séptember 4, 1926. Special Dispatch to The Star. . Last Week. Low ‘This Week. Low. 178% 186 % sources for July, not including postal recelpts, - totaled 3,661,106,700 francs, against 2,404,118,000 in June and the State. 2,534,068,100 francs in July last year, the Bankers' Trust Co. of New York reports. The increase of more than 1,127,000,000 francs over the preced- ing year is due to increased taxes en- forced by the laws of April 4 and April 29 last and by the increase in indirect taxes, many of which are as- sessed ad valorem and consequently grow larger with the higher prices. — Net. | ~1025--26— Clese.
