BOSTON, August 13.—With death in the electric chalr a few short hours away, three men in the death house of Charleston State Prison last night received news that they still had 3 months to live. At the eleventh hour, Gov. Alvan T. Fuller, who previously had refused four times to stay the death sen- tences of John J. Devereaux, Edward J. Heinlein and John J. McLaughlin, granted the men respite until No vember 18 that the courts might pro- nounce on their appeals. They were convicted of the murder of James Ferneau, aged night watch- man of the Waltham car barn of the Middlesex and Boston Street Railway, in a hold-up. At the trial Devereaux admitted that he clubbed the watch- man to death while his companions were robbing the car barn office. The mothers of the three con demned men appealed to the governor at his Summer home at Rye Beach, N.
