Spectacular bullding activities in Flprida, Texas and throughout the South generally are revealed in {he reports of building permits from the 96 leading cites and towns of the 12 Southern States announced by. S. W. Straus & Co. These cities reported §288.252,991 permits izsued for the first six months of the year, comparad. with. $228,891,- 069 for the first half- of 1925, a gain of 26 yer cent. The figures for June were 447,673,461, compared with $42,- 996,7.0 in June, 1925, — increase of 11 per cent. 2 Decrease in Miami. Miami, which led the South in build- ing activities for the half year, re- ported $20,751,167, a loss of about $1,- 000,000 compared with'the same pe- riod last year. Houston, Tex., ranked second, with permits for the six- month’ period of $16,688,435, an in- crease of more than $5,000,000. At- lanta was the third Southern city in buildings for the first six months of the year, having §12472,247, a gain of nearly $6,000,000 over the same pe- riod last year.
