QGeorge Hubert Wilkins, who, as‘lead- er of the Detroit Arctic eéxpedition, v recently tripd to fly over the Arctic wastes, north of Alaska, in wearch of «land, said here today he. intends to ~ succeed even if he has to walk back. Capt. Wilking is on his way to Detroit. He said he rrobnbl\ would return’ to Alaska within two months. On his return the explorer is to make test flights, but with im- proved equipment. Point Barrow, on the Arctic coast of Alaska, will be the base of the mext attempt. Gasoline and oil are mow being shipped from Nome to Point: Barrow.' Although. early Spring, . Wilkina thinks, is the best time for flights, better airplanes are expected to overcome climatic dis- advantages. ‘Wilkins said Lieut. Elelson, an Alaskan aviator, who sthrice ‘flew aire planes of the expedition from Fair- banks to Point Barrow, and once north of Barrow for 150 miles, will remain as pilot, He declived to name other members of the mext under- taking. AMUSEMENTS NATION! \I;— .2 After a lapse of Ywo weeks, during which they further established their merit in “The Show Off,” the National Players Iast night revived their splen- did" production of Austin Strong’s “Seventh Heaven,” which was ac- claimed such an drtistic success earlier in June that demands for its further presentation were ; heard “Trom . all quarters. ‘One again can see-Charles Hlm len. as Boul, the delightfully modern and unquestionably insanitary version of Robin Hood: John Warner as Chico, | his best role in two seasons at the National; Leneta Lane's portrayal.of Diana; the plucky Rhea Diveley's splendid work as Nana “and other members of the company in felkl(uus roles. “Sevénth Heaven,"” good as it was when it originally was offered, this time carries a finish that brings it at least to the level that the best road company could offer. There is ab- solutely no rough spot to mar the en- tertainthent of those who returned 16 see it and there was evidence that quite a number of last night's large audience fell into this clasgification. ‘The story of “Seventh Heaven" probably needs no retelling beyond the brief statement that it concerns the lives of a curious admixture of sewer rats, taxl drivers, a pair of or- phaned sisters and several representa- tives of the better classes of Paris'in the days of the war and immediately preceding the great conflict. Charles Hampden's portrayal’ of Boul, successful as thiéf, friend and Voilu, still stands out as: one- of ‘the most appealing - characterizations. in the history of thé National Players. Chico; philosopher ©of “thé sewers, an atheist impelled to goodness and kind- ness by “le bon Dieti,” whom he denies, is givén sympathetic interpretation by John Warner. - Leneta Lane is even hetter as Diana and the sime goes for Miss Diveley. Romaine Callendar re- vives Brissac with a fervor, and others of the cast excelléntly acquit them- selves in lesser parts. Revival week started with every portent of success.
