Dr. Schmidt found that eels come into being in the common spawning center, make their wav to all parts of the world for domicile and upon reaching a certain age of life, return to the pince of their Lirth, spawn their own voung and they die. ROME, April 26 (Correspondence). One of the classic institutions of Rome, the (afe Aragno, has been abol- ished by the Fasciat regime. Not that the cafe itself has heen put out of business. It still serves_luscious Nea- politan ice cream to its patrong and permits a gentleman to commune with his lady love for hours for the price of two T0.cent drinks. But the old Aragno, the meeting place of par- liamentary deputies, the spot where the most important political deals of the last half century were arranged, has passed into limho with the pas: sage of parliamentary prestize. ‘There was a time when any deputy wHo could not he found in parliament could surely be found at Aragno's when the speecies which were ton im portant to deliver on the flaor of the chamber were delivered over a cup of coffee in the nearby eafe. Today all important decisions are taken by a lit tle group of Fageist functionaries, and as for the deputies —nohody hothers to hunt them up. 1 County of Castles. rumi the Kansas Glamorgan { England and Cornty ¥ Times Conunty Wwhich divides Wales, is known as the of Castles. 1t _has more than forty, most of them %00 vears old and many of them still in an excellent > of preservation. he oldest as well as the most notable is Cardiff Castle, one of the residences of the Marquis of Bute. By the Associated Press. ANCHORAGE, Alaska, June 3. The Alaskan Railroad was construct- ed to develop the assets of Uncle Sam's Northern' possession, but it also has brought satisfaction to the road's officials from another source— tourists. The route of the rallways from Sew- ard on the Pacific Ocean to Fair- banks in the Interior passes through one of the most beautiful sections of the Northland. Each year has brought an increasing number of visitors, who start the trip with a six-day ocean voyage from Seattle on vessels which maintain weekly sailings throughout the year. The entire trip with the exception of 40 hours on the Gulf of Alaska is made through what is known as the inside passage. a land-locked route which is described as being as smooth as a mill pond. At Seward the traine connect with the hoats, and thence they go north- ward along Turnagain Arm, a branch of Cook Inlet, and through mountains which were once declaged impassable. North of Anchorage the Matanueka, Susitna and Tanana Valley forming districts are traversed. lHalf way be tween Anchorage and Fairbanks is National Park, where | veral thousand acres of virgin wil derness have heen preserved. The trip from Seattle to Falrbanks and return takes three weeks. From May 15 1o September 15 there is no snow, but abundant sunshine. Elon éélwl'ege Ex-Dean Dies. for HIGH POINT, N. C.. June 3 (#).
