GENTRAL TO OPEN COMPETITIVE DRILL All Cadets Eagerly Await An- nual Two-Day Confest, Beginning Tomororw. Company Central High School, commanded by Allan C. Drowns. will take the fleld at the American League Park tomor- row morning at 8:30 oclock, marking the opening of the two days’ drilling by twentv-four companies in the thirty-ninth_annual competitive drill of the Washington High School Cadets. Eight of Central High School's nine companies will drill tomorrow morning while three Eastern and three West- ern companies will drill in the after- noon. On Wednesday morning three McKinley Manual Training School Companies and two Business com- panies will drill while in the afternoon one company each from Tech, East- ern, Business and Western will go through their 25-minute periods of maneuvering. Drill Over at 5 0'Clock. After Company M, 3d Regiment, of Western, the final company to drill on Wednesday afternoon leaves the fleld at five minutes of 5, the brigade formation will take place while the judges are consulting the tally sheets| to ascertain the winners. It will be fully 5:30 o'clock when the moment will arrive which is re. garded the most thrilling in high school cadet life. This is when the brigade sergeant will march out :o the center of the field on his mission of summoning the winning compan: He will stand with tantalizing he itancy before he turns to the right or left, as whichever he turns he blights the hopes of 12 of the 24 com. | panies. Even as he gives hope to hal: of the companies the one actually | winning is not known until he sud- wa denly stops and salutes the winning | | captain. Davis to Honor Winner. The winning company cadets will march proudly to the front before Secretary of War Dwight Davis, who will present the Allison Nailor gold medal to the triumphant captain .md‘ then review the brigade. Col. Wallace M. Craigie, professor | of military science and tactics, pre- dicts that the drill this week will he the most keenly contested of any inl high school history. Company L of Western School won the drill last vear, Company F of Central won in and Company D of Western in 1923 { Tech is putting forth a determined | bid for the honor, inasmuch as it has not sent a ribbon company to the fleld since 1920, while Business High School, which has been handicapped by smaller representation than the other schools in many vears bur, al- Ways manages to he “close up,” is anxious to see duplicated the feat of | Capt.
