There are many reports, pro and con, as to the present situation in Florida. At a conference held recently of Better Business Bureau officials to discuss the Florida situation, it was brought forward that while wild real estate speculation i3 through and In- flated prices are dropping, construc- improvement is continuing. The de- flation which has set in is welcomed by legitimate Florida interests. One of its beneficial results is that the blue sy promoter 15 fast leaving the State. Reports are that Texas, the Cape Cod distri of Massachusetts, and West- ern North and South Carolina are getting a number of these operators. The present style in the unsavory promotions in Florida is no longer sub- division lots, but is taking a different form in the plan to sell 10-acre tracts. To purchase these tracts for the home site, or for agricultural purposes, is all right. To purchase them to sell later at a profit is again speculating and should be considered as such by poten- tial owners. The latest development is the at- tempt of some promoters to drill oil wells in Florida. These schemes are taking numerous forms, including the selling of a lot with an interest in the possible future oil. Seek Fraud Elimination. Legitimate Florida busin is at- tempting to eliminate fraud. The bureau does not recommend for or against any invest- ment; {t merely attempts to obtain the facts for the benefit of the prospective purchaser. The present situation in Florida is well summarized by this recent admis- slon by a Florida real estate firm: “Selling real estate in Florida today is a totally different proposition from what it has been in the past. Any- body, whether qualified or not as a salesman, could sell real estate during the past flve years and make all kinds of promises and get away with them, because lots turned over quickly and generally at a profit. Now, however, the people realize that merely ex- changing lots does not build a com- munity. Now the buyers have more sense; they must be shown what they are buying; they must know facts be- fore they buy; they refuse to be mol- Ited or jockeyed into buying a pig in a Ppok 21 reported this week e same volume & preceding weel REAL ESTATE. we The unfilled orders of 237 Souther INCREASE IN LUMBER |: OUTPUT IS REPORTED i, i 150 2 | pine ana West coast mills amounted to gainst 5 previous week The National Lumber Manufactur st lumber industry for the week e April 10, from 403 of the larger soft- 0GP, BN o 114 wood, and 138 of the chief hardwood | gia S pCCr o0 tho week before. ¥or mills of the country. e 386 com- | the 111 W the unfilled parably reporting softwood mills | orders feet, as showed some increases in production 107 mill« and shipments, and a slight decrease | a w i in new business, when compared with Altogether the 386 compard y report from mills the previous | porting softwood mills had shipm week.
