I {Had Played Many Roles in All Parts of Nation for 46 Seasons. By the Associated Press. NEW YORK, April 10.—Henry Miller, dean of actor-managers and one of the best known figures of the Amerlcan stage, is dead. Pneumonia {last night ended ‘his long career of suc- {cesses in which he had become millar to the theater-going public | from coast to coast. He had been on | the stage 46 vears. He was ready to resume the role of 1etor, from which he retired two years ago, when he was stricken with his final illness. He collapsed on Mon- day night, just as he was about to appear in the opening of Lee Wilson Dodd’s comedy, “A Stranger in the House.” His condition was pronounced grave, and he was moved to a New York hos- pital. All hope for his covery was abandoned yesterday, when he suf- fered a relapse and did not regain consclousness. His son, Gilbert H. Miller of London, also a _theatrical producer, and several friends were at his bedside when he died. Mrs. Henry Miller was traveling in Iurope: She had been notified of her and’s {llness and had made plans il for New York on the Maure- tania, due to arrive next week. Henry J. Miller, jr., a son, who is in Cali- fornia, and Mrs. C. McCoy, a daugh- ter, now in Wyoming, were informed of thelr father's iliness and were on their way East when the end came. Mr. Miller was born in London in 1860 and made his first stage appear- ance in Toronto after his parents had moved to Canada. He made his New York debut in 1880 in “Cymbeline,” with the late gdelaide Neilson, and | later appeared with such celebrities as Minnie Maddern Fiske and Mar- garet Anglin, co-starring with the latter. He became a star in his own right in “Heartsease” in 1897, after he had been long leading man in Charles Frohman's Empire Stock Co. For vears he co-starred with Ruth Chatterton. Nine years later he took over the Princess Theater, appearing as actor- manager in his greatest successes, “The Great Divide,” “The Servant in the House,” Longlegs,” “La Tendresse,” *) and “The Fa- mous Mrs. Fair.” u theater for his productions, calling it the Henry Miller. i SHIPPING NEWS Arrivals at_and_Sailings From New York ARRIVED YESTERDAY.
