By the Associated Pres NEW YORK, March-23.—A imissing witness has been injected into the waning drama about the life of Gerald Chapman, due to hang’in Connecticut for murder April 6. The witness, Charles Willlam Greg: ory, once a New Jersey machinist, w sought today by Chapman's lawyers to corroborate an affidavit he made saying he talked to Chapman on a train coming to New York the night| hefore the murder of Policeman Jan Skelley in,New Britain, Conn. The existence of Gregory and of Lis affidavit was revealed Just night. Frederick . Groehl, Chapman’s chief counsel, broadcast an appeal for Gregory and revealed the discovery of two other new witnesses. Gregory was last heard from in October, Mr. Groehl sald. After mak ing the aflidavit he worked in Detroit, was il fn a hospital and then dropped out of sight. Last April, the affidavit says, he was allowed to look through m guard ed peep hole in a cell door and picked out Chapman from wmong three pris- oners, as the man who rode to New York by train with him on the eve Ing before Skelley was killed The second new witness rode fron Grand Central Siation toward Brook Iy on the subway with Chapman after the arrival of the train, the at- torney said.
