WEAKNESSSHONN | (oo womx BONDS o s IN FOREIGN BONDS French Crisis Causes Several Fractional Losses—Rail Liens Sell Lower. BY GEORGE T. HUGHES. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, March 6.—Price changes were mixed in today’s bond trading. The so-called merger rail- road issues were strong at the open- ing with later reaction. United States Government obligations were firm, but foreign issues showed the effects of the French crisis and most of them were fractionally lower. Chesapeako and Ohio convertible 5s were the leaders in the rails, At 144 they were up 18 points from the low of the week made In the crash of ‘Wednesday. Trading in these was on a large scale. When the stock re- ceded later in the séssion, however, the bonds came down from their highs. The Erle issues were all active and part of the time worked higher, but they, too, lost some of the gains after- ward. L ware and Hudson con- vertible 5 were in demand in sym- hy with the stock. Changes in the railroad mortgage bonds were unimportant French bonds weakened all along the line soon after the opening, and as the progressed _offerings hecame - and prices fell away further. French 83, which closed at 102 the duy sefore, sold down rapidly, one lot of SJ\ 000 par value coming out three fourths of a point lower. The 7l4s sold below 99 and the 7s below Paris - Lyons - Mediterranean 6s werc down nearly a point and Seine went lower. The weakness in {“rench bonds was disturbing to other parts of the foreign list, but losses were not large. While the selling was going on in the forelgn group there was ctive buying of United States Government bonds. The Treasury 4s duplicated the high of the year and the fourth 4 Libertles were in active demand. CALLS OUTLOOK | GLOOMY.
