The Health Department &nd the Georgetown Gas Light Co. set out today to eliminate conditions on the south side of M street west of Thirty- fifth, where shopkeepers have been complaining of a mysterious seepage of gas, which hinders their business activities, and where two men were asphyxiated last week and four others were affected by gas. Dr. W. C. Fowler, as soon as he be- came acquainted with conditions there, ordered an investigation into the situation, detailing a chemist and an inspector from the Health Depart- ment to take samples of air, to test for gas from the vicinity and to look over the general situation to discover whether drastic action should be rec- ommended. Meanwhile engineers of the George- town Gas Light Co. had arrived on the scene with a number of skilled workmen and laborers to put a stop- plate on the main running west on M street from the joint which swings out across the Key Bridge.
