NEW YORK, December 12-—The chief changes in bonds today, at the end of the week, came in the more speculative ralls and industrials. In the former grqup New Haven bonds were active and strong. New York, Westchester and Boston 4} moved up easily on_ comparatively small transactions, affd new buying came into the New Haven 6s of both maturities. The steady progre: toward financial recovery made by the New Haven has raised the in- vestment status of all these bonds. In the industrial list International Mercantile Marine 6s had a brisk come- back of a point and a half. The presi- dent of the company stated this week that the outlook for 1926 was bright, although 1925 earnings had not been all that had been hoped for, Marine 65 selling at 86 yleld 71 per cent. United States Government bonds were mostly higher, Liberty third 438 being In especially good demand. On the other hand, there was practi- cally no improvement in the high- grade railroad {ssues. The member banks’ statement for the week ending December 2, made public today, shows a drop of $19,00,000 in holding of se- curities other than obligations of the United States. Foreign bonds were steady, the weakening in the French group not affecting the balance of the list, and even the French bonds holding up re- markably well, considering the re- newed weakness in franc exchange. MORE RAIL DIVIDEND POLICIES ARE PENDING Southern and B. & 0. Among Rail- roads to Decide Action This Week. Bs the Assoclated Press NEW YORK, December 12.—Before the end of the year several important rallroad dividend policies will come up for decision. With the Southern, New York Central and Baltimore and Ohio now out of the way, the greatest inter- est attached to the meeting of the Mis- sour{-Kansas-Texas directors sched- uled for December 21. More than a year ago, the road’s executive com. mittee announced that it would await the results of 1925 before placing its preferred stock on the full 7 per cent rates. This yvear's earnings can now be safely estimated. but meanwhile new interests, headed by L. F. Loree have obtained a voice in the manag ment and are said to be more interest- ed in a consolidation that in a higher dividend. Another Southwestern road whose dividend possibilities are attracting at- tention in Wall Street is the Mi sourl Pacific. Because of a_heavy ac- cumulation on the preferred, the next meeting of directors before Christmas will be closely watched for action to reduce the amount of payments in arrears. 10 PER CENT INCREASE IN INDUSTRY FORECAST NEW ORLEANS, Dacember 12 (#) —Predictions that business and in- dustrial activity in the Southeast dur- ing the next three months will be 10 per cent or more greater than during the first three months of 1925 were made here vesterday during a quar- terly meeting of the Southeast Ship- pers’ Regional Advisory Board. The forecast is based on reports from chairmen of 15 commodity com- mittees, covering practically all lines of business and industry in the terri- tory_south of the Ohio and east of the Mississippi River. CHICAGO, December 12 (). — withstanding that unexpected upturns in wheat quotations at Liverpool led to higher prices here as soon as the Chicago market opened, declines here quickly ensued. The advance at Liver- pool was attributed to smallness of world's shipments. Liberal export business overnight in North American wheat was indicated, but the bulge in values here brought about at once heavy selling and a decided dowriturn in the market. Chicago opening prices 1 to 2 cents higher, new.style, De- cember, 1.70% to 1.71, and May, 1.65% to 1.66, were followed by an irregular descent to 1.66% for December and 1.63% for May. Corn and oats were governed largely by the action of wheat. After open- ing at 1% to % cent gain, May, 85 to 851, the corn market receded to 833% for May. Oats’ started at % to 1 cent ad- vance, May, 45% to 45%. Later the market showed some loss. Provisions were firmer, reflecting a rise in the value of hogs. WOOL MOVE FAVORED. By the Associated Press. CHICAGO, December 12.—Corn has suddenly gone up in price this week, whereas wheat has gone down. Ac- cording to various trade authoritles, indications are that corn on farms is being more largely utilized for feeding to live stock or is being held for higher prices, and that the wheat market has been strained by the many steep up- turns of late. Compared with a week ago, the corn market this morning showed 13 to 1% cents gain, wheat was 3% to 6 cents off, oats 13 to % cents up and provisions varying from 50 cents decline to 25 cents advance. Corn Surprise of Week. Although corn displayed from the | beginning of the week something of | an opposite trend as compared with wheat, it was several days before a majority of the traders appeared to accept the view that the market had discounted the large size of the corn crop this season. However, the fact that primary receipts of corn were falllng off in a remarkable manner became too evident to be further ig- nored, and leading commission firms here pointed out that actlon by Gov- ernment officials and by leading bank- ers in helping to establish better rural credit facilities had already been ef. fective to a considerable extent in slowing up the movement of corn out of Towa, the banner corn State of the couptry. Heavy Selling Checks Wheat. Heavy selling which developed in the wheat market ¢.d much to check and at times overcome the relative buoyancy of corn values. New high price records for the season in the wheat market, though, were reached before wheat began to give way under the pressure both from profit- taking holders and from speculators who were acting on opinions that Ar- gentine crop damage reports had lost influence for the moment and that a | sharp reaction was due. Cutting down of vistble supplies of oats made the oats market responsive to the action of corn values.
