ROCKVILLE, Md., November 26 (Special) —Edward Jackson, colored youth, was acquitted in the Circuit Court here yesterday of manslaughter. He was accused of causing the death of Ralph Doeers, 18, colored, October 15. The boys were hunting near Dooers’ home, and Doeers was shot in the head. Jackson claimed he and Dooers, long friends, had no trouble and that the shooting was accidental. Licenses have been issued by the clerk of the Circuit Court here for the marriage of Grayson P. STEVENS Court Orders Hearing in Case of Man Held in Jail on ‘Wife’s Charges. Justice Hitz of the District Supreme Court has {ssued a writ of habeas corpus, directed to Willlam C. Peake, superintendent of the District jall, re- quiring him to have in court tomorrow morning John W. Stevens, a former policeman here, and later a street car conductor in Baltimore. Stevens is in Jall because he was not able to give a bond not to leave Washington pend- ing action on the complaint of his wife, Marie E. Stevens, that he is be- hind in his alimony. WHEELING, W, Va., November 26 (#).—The Wheeling Steel Corporation yesterday announced plans for the erection of a large addition to its Eact Steubenville coke plant, to cost $1,000,- 000. The contract has been awarded to the Koppers Construction Co. of Pittsburgh, and work will start imme- diately. The addition will increase the num- ber of coke ovens from 91 to 148, and when the 57 new ovens are added the dafly output will be raised to 1,700 tons. They will produce coke to oper- ate the company’s ovens at Martins Ferry and Wheeling. e Since 1921 the factories in Califor- nfa, most of which are driven by elec- tric power, have increased 72 per cent.
