CALDWELL “Purge” and “Physic” Cruel to Women, Children, 0ld Folks To Dr. W. B. Caldwell, of Monti- cello, lll., a practicing physician for 17 years, it seemed cruel that so many constipated children, women and particularly old folks, had to be kept constantly “stirred up” and , half sick by taking cathartic pills, tablets, salts, calomel and nasty oils. While he knew that constipation - was all the cause of nearly all head aches, biliousness. indigestion and Stomach misery, he did not believe that a sickenina “purge” or “physic” every day or two was necessary. In Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin he discovered a laxative which regu- lates the bowels. An Open Letter From nnette Kellermann to the Women of Washington ANNETTE KELLERMANN The world’s foremost physical culture exponent HIS open letter is being written in answer to the hundreds of letters I have received from women who saw my demonstration of exercises during the past week at Keiths, and who heard my lecture. It is a physical impossibility for me to answer all these letters at this time. | wish [ could, but I cannot. So I am taking this method of answer- ing, because the theme of all the letters has been practically the same. Here is a typical one: Dear Miss Kellermann: | saw your act at Keith's and heard your lecture and | cannot thank you too much! It was a revelation to me of how criminally careless I have been with my body and with my health. | must do something about myself Can you help me? You have shown me and other women a vision of the Promised Land of abounding health and vitality and youth. But how can I enter it? It was not enough just to see your wonderful, wonderful exercises and to hear the marvelous way you take care of yourself. | am afraid | will forget it all too soon. or that | won't follow your method properly and systematically. Are your methods being taught by any one here in Washington? Or have you ever written them out in book form. or in a course? | do hope that you have. Will you not tell me what | can do to follow your methods thoroughly and systematically? This is the kind of letter | have received by the hundred here in Wash- ington. It is the kind of letter | have been receiving for FIFTEEN YEARS. It is what women, by the thousand, have asked me in person. whenever | have lectured before schools and colleges and women's clubs. In the past, in my travels, [ have given personal individual instruction to hundreds and hundreds of women, and the chief pride of my life is the gratitude these women express to me whenever | see them in going about the country. But all through my career my chief problem has been —HOW TO HELP THE THOUSANDS OF WOMEN WHOM I CANNOT POS- SIBLY SEE IN PERSON. Years ago. so great was the apparent need for something of this sort. | did prepare a course of instruction by mail. BUT IT NEVER COM- PLETELY SATISFIED ME. Now at last, however, the problem is solved. For months | have been working on a new course of instruction—which any woman can follow FOR FIFTEEN MINUTES A DAY. And | am satished that it is so clear, simple and thorough that no woman can fail to be bene- fitted as much as if [ undertook the instruction in person. I have had pictures taken of every movement of every one of my exer- cises. | have written complete and simple instructions as to what to do EVERY DAY. I have so arranged it that it can be changed and adapted to the needs of every woman, depending upon her condition and WHAT HER BODY NEEDS. The lessons, adapted individually to each woman and based upon a chart which she sends in when she enrolls, will be sent out from my headquarters in New York, to which [ shall return at frequent in- tervals in order to oversee personally what is being done. My purpose in writing this open letter is to announce to the women of Washington who have written me, and to others who felt it would be an imposition to write to me, THAT I CAN NOW HELP THEM IN THIS WAY. And so confident am | that this instruction by correspondence WILL WORK that I have decided to make this offer: YOU MAY TRY MY METHODS FOR TEN DAYS AND IF YOU DO NOT AGREE THAT THEY WILI. MAKE AN ENTIRELY "NEW WOMAN" OF YOU, YOU NEED NOT PAY ANYTHING FOR THE INSTRUCTION. One more word. | want to repeat what I have said so often in my ap- pearances here. You can make of your body what you want it to be. You can be as healthy as you want to be. As youthful as you want to be. As ALIVE as you want to be. [ have proved it not only with myself but with innumerable women. When I was a child I was weak, puny and ailing. [ wore braces to support myself. Yet within a few years | became famous all over the world for my swimming feats. [ had the happiness of being called “‘the most per- fectly formed woman in the world.” And the proportions of my body have not changed ONE-SIXTEENTH OF AN INCH in twenty years. And I work harder than [ ever did. | am as active as | ever was. [ feel as youthful as when | was a child. You can do thc same, IF YOU WISH. It is unnecessary, UNNECES- SARY—I would like to repeat it a thousand times—for any woman to be forever weak, ailing, tired out, to be old before her time, to be a prey to petty aches and pains. [ wish.to PROVE this to you. Will you let me? If you are interested in obtaining complete information about my course of instruction, | suggest that you mail the coupon below or write a letter to my New York headquarters. ANNETTE KELLERMANN, INC. 225 West 39th St.. New York. Please send me complete information about Miss Kellermann's course of instruction by mail.
