Campbell Morgan, famous English_preacher, will come to Wash- nigton for a series of meetings cover- ing a period of two weeks. After spending two weeks with his two sons touring New England, Dr. Samuel Judson Porter, pastor of the First. Baptist Church, Sixteenth and O streets, preached for 10 days in Red Springs, N. C. Dr. Porter plans an_active cam- paign here this Fall and Winter, but will go to San Antonio, Tex., to preach one sermon on the opening of the $300,000 church erected by the Bap- tists of which he was pastor eight years. HOLY GRAIL IS TOPIC. Dr. J. Percival Huget of Brooklyn will speak at the First Congrega- tional Church, Tenth and G streets, ‘tomorrow at 11 a.m. on “Jordan’s Banks,” and at 8 p.m. on “The White Flower.” At the 8 p.m. service Dr. Huget will tell of the discovery of the Holy Grail in Antioch in 1910 and the in- teresting fact that this chalice, which many authorities believe to be the very cup of the Last Supper, is now in New Yorl Novena in Honor of Virgin Mary. The Feast of thé “Mater Dolorosa,” of the Sorrowful Mother Christ, is Tuesday at St. Mary Catholic Church. A novena, in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, under this title, will be held from September 12 to September 20. Rev. Isador L. Smith of the Passionist Fathers will con- duct the povena. There will be a mass daily at 7 o'clock and at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, which will be offered for the inten- tions of those making the novena. EPIPHANY TO HEAR FORMER MEMBERS Rev. Percy Foster Hall and Rev. E. H. Gibson Will Preach Tomorrow. Two former members of the clerical staff of Epiphany Church will occupy the pulpit tomorrow, the fourteenth Sunday after Trinity. At 11 am. Rev. Percy Foster Hall, rector of St. Paul's Church, Alexandria, will de- liver the sermon, and at evensong, at 8 o'clock, Rev. Edmund H. Gibson, rector of Trinity Church, Ten Hills, Md., will preach. Rev. Mr. Hall was senfor assistant at Epiphany several years before ac cepting the call to become rector of old St. Paul's. He has been special preacher at Epiphany on numerous occasions since leaving for his Vir- ginia charge. Rev. Mr. Gibson became a postu- lant for Holy Orders a few vears ago, partly as the result of a sermon on the ministry delivered in Epiphany by Dr. James E. Freeman, then rector. Upon his ordination .to the priesthood | in June, 1924, Mr. Gibson was imme- diately called to the rectorship of Trinity Church at Ten Hills, near Baltimore. He has been quite suc- cessful in his first parish, more than doubly increasing its membership and activitles. Sunday's preachment will be Mr. Gibson’s first in Epiphany since his ordination to the priesthood. There will be a celebration of the holy communion at 8 am. The Summer session of the church school will be held at 9:45 am. and at 6 p.m. the young people of the parish will gather for thelr weekly meeting. SERVICE AT ASCENSION. Rev. Thomas W. Cooke, rector of the Church of the Ascension, Twelfth street and Massachusetts avenue, will be the preacher at the 11 o'clock serv- ice tomorrow, his subject being, “Mod- ern Lepresy—the Leprosy of Sin.” There will be the usual celebration of the holy eucharist at 8 a.m., but there will be no evening service. SIXTH STREET SYNAGOGUE HOLDS SERVICE TONIGHT Sacred “Slichos” Will Be Chanted by Cantor Novick at Mid- night Ceremony. The Sixth Street Synagogue will usher in its major holy day season to- night, when Rev. Louis Novick will chant the sacred “Slichos” services at 12 o'clock midnight. This service will be an innovation in the Adath Israel Congregation, which is the oldest and largest orthodox synagogue in Washington. It has been custom- ary to conduct the service at 6 o'clock on Sunday morning before the New Year day, and many members have expressed their approval of the change, which will undoubtedly enable many more to attend than previously. Cantor Novick is preparing an elab- orate musical program. The cantor recently was re-elected for a third year with this congregation. Rabbl Louis J. Schwefel will preach at the service. The annual memorial services will be conducted at the cemetery tomor- row at 2:30 p.m. BIBLE SCHOOL TO OPEN. Winter Term Will Get Under Way September 21. The Winter session Bible schools are planning to begin September 21 and in warly October, just as soon as arrange- ments are complete for the kindergar- ten classes. The classes for those of school age are those to be in session Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings in the churches of the dif- ferent denominations. Among those schools which will be- gin September 21 is the week-day Bible school of Metropolitan Methodist Epis- copal Church, which was {naugurated when Dr. Harry D. Mitchell was pas- tor of the church and an executive officer of the Washington Bible School Association. This school is now enter- ing the second year with Miss Hart- line the director.
