NEW YORK, September 10.—An @ther lively advance occurred on the Btock Exchange today. beginning with the motor shares, spreading to the rubber and tire stocks and the motor Accessories, then to the copper and smelting issues. \While these groups were going up there was rapid up- bidding of high-priced specialties, with &dvances of 2 to 5 points and in nu merous instances more. Studebaker Is Leader. . Fully 100,000 shares of Studebaker Were traded in during the first ho and a half, after which the stock, while still very active. was not quite 85 conspicuous in relation to others of the motor zroup. There was quite & bit of switching around by traders who had profits in some of the recent motor leaders into' Hudson Motor, tvhich was regarded as not having had its share of the rise. Hudson shot up 3 points with remarkable ease. the Buving based on latest estimates shich are that earnings are running at the rate of $12 a share as against 83 paid out in dividends. September 10.—Un- filled orders of the United States Steel Corporation on August 31 made public today totaled 3,512,803 tons, a de crease of 26.664 tons. compared with the end of the preceding month. The decrease in unfilled tonnage at the end of August is the smallest re- ported by the corporation since the orders first began to fall off last March. NEW YORK, September 10.—Uni- form strength prevalled throughout toda) bond market, but activity was chiefly centered in the foreign group, in some of the speculative rails and in certain of the recently offered utilities. French and German obligations were in special demand among for- elgn issues. French 7'2s and French s both made new highs for the vear. French 8s gained fractionally, but were still below their 1925 top and at today's quotation gave a higher vield than either of the two other direct obligations of the government. The new high of the German 7s was not much above that reached on Wednesday, but the advance was im- pressive in its consistency. Other Foreign Issues Up. South American bonds were nearly all strong. Bogota Ss made a new high since they were first issued. Bo- livia 8s duplicated their best previous price. Brazil bonds were a shade higher. There were two features among the rails, one the strength in the St. Paul Londs and the other the advance to a new high of the Denver and Rio Grande Western 5s. The buying in the St. Paul group was founded on the expectation that the official reorgani- zation plan will be declared effective in September 1 C. & 0. 55 Advance. Chesapeake & Ohio convertible ran up nearly a point and then re acted as much. Delaware & Hudson convertible 55 when up with the stock. There were heavy dealings In Mis souri, Kansas & Texas adjustments, but not with much net change. International Telephone and Tele graph 5':s were the leader among the utilities. The Seaboard Air Line asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to- day to allow it to consolidate its con- trol of three Florida subsidiaries, which are engaged in building sys- tems of railroads for the same Sea- board system. The three companies in Florida— the Seaboard-All-Florida Railway, the Florida Western and Northern and the East and West Coast Railway— the Seaboard system now proposes to take under long-term lease and op- erate.
