BY GEORGE T. HUGHES. Special Dispatch to The Star. NEW YORK, September 1. rregu- larity was still the characteristic of the bond market in today’s trading. A sale of New York City 44s of 1960 was made at 100%, which was a low for the year. At this price the yvield is higher than in municipal securities of corresponding rank. The prospect of tax reduction seems to be diverting funds from exempt bonds into taxable securities. Moves in Foreign Groups. In the foreign group the feature was the drop of iwo points in the Australian 5s. They closed last night at 991, and opened today at 98, then selling down to 97%. s dissolved last night nged hands in unusually large fractionally higher. Specula tion in the Mexican issues, which has been so prominent in the last few days. subsided and quotations receded slightly. City of Rio Janeiro 85 of 1947 s0ld down a half point, approach- ing the low of the year. Sugar Bonds Heavy. Among domestic industrials sugar bonds were heavy, local tractions were streng and the ofl bonds were steady. !In the rails the leader was the St. Louis-San Francisco incomes, which opened lower and then more than re covered the loss. The Ilorida West- ern and Northern 7s bhad another sharp advance of over four points. Other Seaboard bonds did nothing. New Haven issues were in greater favor, but guotations were not much changed. The Denver and Rio Grande Western s, crossing 64, made a new h for the present movement. most important new offering of | the week will be offered tomorrow in the shape of $70,000,000 one-year Do- minion of Canada 4 per cent notes.
