Funeral services for Joseph Van Arsdale, veteran employe of the United States Treasury, who died at his resi- dence, 1731 Columbia road, yesterday, [ will be conducted at the chapel of W | R. Speare Company, 1208 H street, to- morrow morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. Earle Wilfley, pastor of the Vermont | Avenue Christian Church, of which Mr. Van Arsdale was a trustee and elder, will officlate. Interment will be in_Rock Creek Cemetery. Mr. Van Arsdale, who was an em ploye of the Treasury for nearly 60 vears, was delegated by the Secretary of the Treasury to act with “power of attorney” in signing for money going out of the Treasury through warrants, | | or drafts. He held such power for six vears, auring which time he, perhaps, signed for more money than had any other individual before him. Mr. Van Arsdale was twice re- { tired from duty, due to age, only to be reinstated each time under special | provision in connection with the re- tirement act of 1920. He was given a physical examination on each oc caston and declared fit for further duty. He was serving in the book keeping and warrants division at the | time of his death. Mr. Van Arsdale was a member of | the Association of Oldest Inhabitants | of the District of Columbia, the Ben- | jamin B. French Lodge, No. 15, | F. A. A. Mitchell was here visiting his wife and baby daughter, who was born here last Sunday Referring to the Air Service, he said: “As long as we are under the Army and Navy we will not have any Afr Service. We haven't more than a dozen fighting ships and the rest are nothing but toy outfits falling down around our ears,” Col. Mitchell was deprived of his rank of brigadier general following a controversy over aircraft policies in Washington last Spring.
