POST CARD ASTRAY BRED FEARS FOR PROFESSOR Educator Says He Wrote Wife That He Was Leav- ing London Early. Wisconsin By the Associated Press. EDINBURGH, Scotland, July 23.— Prof. Joseph Victor Collins of Stevens Point, Wis., is returning to London today still unable to see why the police forces of England and Scotland and a scere of newspaper sleuths should have been so excited about his visit to the North to attend the World Education Conference. Prof. Colling’ first intimation that his wife, in London, did not know where he was, came yesterday after- noon when a friend whom he met on an Edinburgh street informed him that the police were searching for him on the theory that he had been the victim of London footpads. The professor explained he left Lon- don earlier than he had planned and informed his wife by a post card, mailed at Kings Cross statfon, of his departure. He spent Tuesday and Wednesday sightseeing and he onl attended the conference informally and did not learn of the extensive search being made for him. Ordered to Post Here. Maj. Paul W. Evans, Signal Corps, ssistant commandant of the Signal School, Camp Alfred Vail, New Jer- sey, has been ordered to this city for duty in_the office of the chief signal officer, War Department.
