Overthrow Zinoviev, His ™1 Colleague. BY F. A. MACKENZIE. By Radio to The Star and the Chicago Daily ows. STOCKHOLM, June 30.—Reports from Moscow show the increasing strain between Dzjerzinsky and Zino- " viev. The newspaper Tidningen states that Dzjerzinsky has resolved to leave 1o stones unturned to overthrow Zino- Viev, his latest move being to dispatch a special commission to Leningrad to investigate charges of corruption against officlals employed by Soviet economic organizations there. Lenin- grad is Zinoviev's territory. Tidningen also reports that 700 more people have been sent into exile in two weeks. The total number of prisoners in concentration camps and prisons for political and economic of- fenses now has reached §9,000. 11,000 Exiles. Exiles in the Archangel region alone | now number 11,000, including 2,000 voung men and women, who are in desperate condition. While this report comes from white Tussian sources, there is general agreement concerning th: ent great increase in the numbe Russian arrests for political causes. Attempts are being made here to increase the uneasiness over present activities of the Russian ficet in the Baltic. Seven battleships are maneuvering in the ¥innish bay around the Esthonian coast, huge clouds of smoke indicating camouflage exercises. Alarming to Baltic States. “The Russlan activitles are rather an alarming sign for the Baltic states, as it indicates Russia intends to pur- sue a very active Baltic policy,” says Stockhclm’s Dagblatt. This gives in- terest to the recent speech of Minister of Defense Hansen, who is responsible for Sweden’s disarmament policy. “Our first concern should be for Sweden to remain free and independ- ent,” he said. “If I felt that military means were the only way of insuring our independence I should not hesi- tate to recommend comprehensive armaments.
