Assaulted and robbed by & “floater” he befriended, Willlam C. Schulman, a visiting railroad man from Erle, Pa., has learned the price of gratitude. | Touched by the hard luck story of the “Hoater” whom he met on the coping of the park at Seventh street and Pennsylvania avenue Thursday night, Schulman took the man to the National Hotel to share his room. The intervening conversation, the visitor thought, had cemented the bonds of a strong friendship. When Schulman retired, however, the stranger dealt him a stunning blow, took his money and jewelry from under the pillow and escaped via the hotel fire escape. His loss was $47, a Masonic fob and other jewelry valued at $200. Headquarters Detectives Springman and Darnall have been assigned to investigate the case, while Inspector Grant is planning another campaign to rid the Pennsylvania avenue park of its itinerant crowd of loafers, Pinchot to Tour West. HARRISBURG, Pa., May 23 (®).— Gov. Pinchot plans a tour of the West beginning the latter part of next month, he announced. He said that arrangements had not been com- pleted, but that he expected, among other things, to talk on giant power. He will address the International Christian Endeavor Convention in Portland, Oreg., the first week in July.
