Argentina is the country most like- 1y to be selected as the next to sere- nade the United States. Having successfully demonstrated its abllity to rebroadcast England to America, the Radlo Corporation of America, while continuing its experi- ments with transatlantic broadcast- ing, is understood to be preening a glant transmitter in Buenos Alres for South America’s debut radio con- cert in the States. Following the Argentine, Ja well be expected to add its voice to the international chorus of broad- casters, which David Sarnoff, vice president and general manager of the Radio Corporation, has predicted will soon be heard around the world. Such a course of development would be following up the channel already established for world-wide wirel communication by telegraph. It is an interesting feature of the demon- strations of the past week that very lttle equipment supplementary to the apparatus_already in use for trans- anic telegraphy was required. The 10-mile antenna at Belfast, Me., used for the reception of the program is the same antenn: that is used for reception of telegraphic messa when static or other fc ns of int ference render. reception unsatisfac tory at Riverhead, Long Island. The Chelmstord transmitter, similarly, is one of the principal sending stations for transoceanic wireless telegraph In rebroadeasting the human voic and a musical concert across the ocean, however, it was necessary to develop a special type of receiver and to conduct extensive experiments in elminating static and other forms of interference. In & statement made public by of- ficlals of the Radio Corporation it is explained that the rebroadcast con- certs of last week are ouly experi- mental and that the difficulties of transoceanic reception are not to be underestimated. It may happen, the statement de- clares, that from time to time during the Spring and Summer the experi- ments will have to cease because of storms and other interruptions hich will not permit the tests to be made under predetermined conditions. Enough progress has been made, how- ever, the statement concludes, to war- rant the declaration that the world is now entering upon an era of inter- national broadcasting that will event- ually bring the entertainment, speech and music of other countries to every home in Americ. she's well.' CONSTIPATION SICKNESS More human suffering, physical and mental, ha resulted from constipation than from any other source. The entire future life of a child can be to the proper daily movement of the bowels. If the bowels do not act at least twice daily it means constipation— that means the bowels are clogged up with the accumu- lated residue of five to fifteen meals or more with donse- quent pollution, poison and disease. Dr. Caldwell's SYRUP PEPSIN The Family Laxative - —relieves constipation. Tingling warmth— glowing comfort When all other remedies haye failed try Sloan’s. Reproduotion Prohibited. The Square~Law, Stralght-Line Wave- ngth Calibration Variable Co denwer. Part IL The wijve length of the circuit dis- cussed in yesterday's article, using an_inductance coil of .4 millihenries and a condenser with its minimum capacity of 13 micro-microfarads, is. according to the formula, 135.8 meters. If we move the condenser dial 10 degrees (on @ 100-degree dial) tr capacity will change from 13 to 36.7 micro-microfarads and the wave length will change to 220.52 meters, a difference of 84.72 meters In wave length; while a change of 10 degrees on the upper portion of the dial from 90 to 100 degrees produces a change of only 29.8 meters, then if, for the sake of argument, we say that stations are transmitting 10 meters apart, there will be approxi- mately elght stations to tune in in the first 10 degrees of the dial and only three stations to tune in in the last 10 degrees of the dial, so that greater latitude of movement is al- lowed on the upper readings than can be hoped for in the lower dlal readings. Obviously, the remedy s to take care of this condition by a special design of the plates, making it nec- essury to turn through a larger angle at the lower end of the dial to cover the wave-length range. In other terms, what must be accom- plished is to cause a greater change of capacity on the upper scale read- ings for a glven angular motion of the dial. “The method used to ob- tain this result will be described tomorrow. change micro-microfarads and will bring the total 2 differene of 71.42 e mark capacity to 841 micro-microfarads Another 10-degree change (in the capacity in the circult to 604 meters from the previous condition with an increase in wave length to dial sotting will increase the con- denser capacity by another 237 rofarads with a corre- rge of wave length to Another of 10 degrees to the 30-de will increase the 345.68,meters, a change of only 53.64 meters in wave length Maximum Cireuit Capacity. The wa length of th freuit using this amount of capacity | would be G866 or a difference be- tween the 90 and 100 degree setting of only 29.8 meters.
