The rally gvas promoted by bullish Southern spot advices. NEW ORLEANS, La., December 15. —The cotton market opened officially quiet, but there was fairly good trad- ing in every month on the first call. First prices showed losses of 11 to 12 points, owing mainly to lower Liverpool cables than due. The initial trades proved the lows, as the mar- ket promptly steadied up on a pri- vate estimate of ginnings for the last period of only 445,000 bale: January went up to 23.42, March to 23.43 and' May to or 7 to 10 points up from the initial lows and 1 to 4 points under the close of Sat-| urday. CHICAGO GRAIN PRICES. CHICAGO, December 15.—With many traders inc.ined to look for a reaction from recent sharp advances, the wheat market showed a downward trend to- day during the early transactions. Profit-taking sales on the part of re- cent buyers were a factor, and so, too, was apparent absence of new ex- port business. It contended aiso that the markets on this side of the Atlantic had been advancing much more rapidly of late than at Liverpool. Opening quotations here, which ranged from % to % lower, May 1.67% to 1.6714, and July 1.473% to 1.47%, were followed by moderate further detlines and then something of a rally. Corn and ocats took their cue largely from wheat. After opening at % to % off, May 1.30 to 1.30%, the corn market fluctuated within limits of about 1 cent. Oats started at 4 to % lower, May 621, to 6214, but later recovered. Provisions were easier, influenced by weakness of hog values and of grair WHEAT— Open. High. Low.
