The general assembly of the strik- ing workers will, however, take the terms under advisement, and in the meantime plans for a general strike have been postponed. The men have been out for a month. They demand recognition of their union and the right to have three delegates in each mill for the improvement of working conditions. NEW YORK, December 12.—Trial of Louis M, Kardos, jr., partner of John Burke of North Dakota, former Treasurer of the United States, in the brokerage firm of Kardos & Burke, which failed February 22, 1922, with labilities of $2,156,985 and assets of $258,760, opened yesterday in Gen- eral Sessions Court. Kardos, indicted July 321, 1923, is charged with feloniously trading against the account of his customers and with bucketing. Burke was not indicted. Assistant District Attorney Hugo Wintner, in his opeping address to the jury, accused Kardos of stealing Homemade from hundreds of customers as far west as Chicago by selling their margin securities. The specific complaint on which the trial is based charges that on Janu- ary 21, 1922, Kardos gave a selling order for 650 shares of Chandler Motors stock to offset an order of Mrs, Florence Noble ot Brooklyn for the same amount of the same stock.
