| TWO PERSONS ROBBED. School Teacher Assaulted and Bag Taken—Man Injured. Two assaults and robberles report- ed 1ast night to the police, were be- ing Investigated today. Miss Helen M. Gray, Central High School teacher, was seized by an un- identifled man at Delafleld place and We were fortunate in securing th: Arkansas avenue last night and thrown to the ground. The assailant snatched a bag she had been carry- ing and ran away. She pursued him for a short distance shouting for help, but he made his escape. In the bag, she told police, were a letter to Superintendent of Schools F. W. Bal- lou, a Latin text book, a black leather pocketbook containing $1 and a palr of eye glasses. She told police she could not identify the man. Three or four colored men Wwere reported by John Burke, formerly of THE EVENING STAR, WASHINGTON, D. C 924 Twenty-third street, to have held him up and robbed him at Delaware avenue and F streets southwest, beating him over the head. At Em- gency Hospital, where he was taken in the ambulance for treatment of scalp wounds, he told police that he was robbed of $47.50. At the above address given by him as his residence, however, it was learned from resi- dents there today, he had not occu- pled the house for some time, and his present address is not known. LOS ANGELES, December 10.—The negligence of a motorman caused the death of Gene Stratton Porter, novel- ist and naturalist, who died heére Sat- urday night, due to injuries received when a street car struck her automo- bile, according to the verdict at the coroner's inquest. As the inquest was not attended by any representative of the district at- torney’s office, no official statement was forthcoming as to whether a charge would be laid against the motorman Famous Old Recipe for Cough Syrup Easily and cheaply made at home but it beats them all for quick results. Thousands of housewives have found that they can save two-thirds of the money usually spent for cough preparations by using this well known old recipe for making cough syrup. It is simple and cheap, but it has no equal for prompt results. It takes right hold of a cough and gives im. te relief, usually stopping an ordinary cough in 24 hours or less. Get 2 ounces of Pinex from any druggist, pour it into a pint bottle and add plain granulated sugar syrup to make a full pint. If you prefer, use clarified molasses, honey or corn syrup instead of sugar syrup. Either way, it tastes good, keeps perfectly, and lasts a family a long time. It's truly astonishing how quickly |it acts, penetrating through every air passage of the throat and lungs, loosens and raises the phlegm, soothes and heals the membranes, nd gradually but surely the annoy- ing throat tickle and dreaded cough disappear entirely. Nothing better for bronchitis, spasmodic croup, hoarseness or bronchial asthma, Pinex is a special and highly con- centrated compound of genuine Nor- way pine extract, known the world over for its healing effect on mem- branes. Avoid disappointment by asking your druggist for “2!: ounces of Pinex,” with full directions, and don’t accept anything else. Guaran- teed to give absolute satisfaction or money promptly refunded.
