President Coolidge received Rev. Dr. Mara C. Hayford of West Africa on Monday. Dr. Hayford was presented to the President by the British Ambas- sador, Sir Esme Howard. Dr. Hayford is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society of Eng- land. His effective work in improv- ing the sanitary conditions of parts of Africa has won for him the elec- tion to the Royal Sanitary Institute of London. The African clergyman is the author of several lessons and pamphlets on the religious problems of West Af: In Great Britain Dr. Hayford occupies a recognized posi- tion in scientific and religious cir- cles. He is the head of the largest church of native origin on the Gold and Ivory Coasts of West Africa and is the president of a large school and training college on the Gold Coast.
