Mr. McAdoo disgressed from his talk on national politics and delivered a glowing tribute to William A. Ayers, candidate for Congress from the eighth congressional district of Kansas. ° Turning to the Democratic national convention in New York, the former Treasury Secretary declared he was 1y touched by the loyal support which the Kansas delegation gave to him and said he valued it more than the presidency of the United States. In closing Mr. McAdoo said that “whatever happens at this election, I bring prosperity and ontentment to the laboring men and }to the farmers and to the great masses | of people of th country, and I hope you will get your share of it in next four vears.” Mr. McAdoo said that because of his w ness from the recent opera- tion he did not believe that he would make any other addresses on his-trip to the ast. He was accompanied by his wife and two daughters. - GETS OIL CONCESSION. Kansas City Man Given Franchise by Nicaragua. MANAGUA, caragua, October 28. Robert J. LACK FIGHT ISSUES Editor Sees No Reason to Elect Either La Follette or Davis, Thers never was a campaign o destitute of issues, looking at the sit- uation from the Democratic party’s viewpoint, W. Hoff Seely, magazine editor, declared at a Republican din- ner given by the American Associa- tion of University Women at 1324 T street last night. Mr. Seely ridiculed the actions of the Democratic and Progressive candidates in their efforts to pick flaws in the Republican ad- ministration. He praised John W. Davis' Integrity and ability, but said he felt sorry that Davis‘should shoul- rder the burden of a fruitless effort. La Follette is a radical, he said, and even should he occupy the White House there need be no fears enter- tained, as the common sense of the American people will not tolerate any of his radical tdeas. Misstatements and misinterpretation of facts were responsible for the following which La Follette scems to have, he de- clared, and if the Senator is elected it will be through subterfuge. Referring to the Learue or Nations question, Mr. Seely said he hoped the tima would never come when the United States would have a prescrip- tion written by any other country telling it hew to conduct its affairs. He attributed the large number of automobiles and other luxuries en- joyed by the laboring classes to the Republican party's protective ift. He used comparative figures of - land and the the fallacy of a low tariff. - Entrance to the White House must be gained in an orderly manner through plans laid long years ago, not through hatred kindled by pas- sion and unrest as evidenced by the Progressives, he said. He charged the Democrats with saving the oil scandal for campaign purposes, claiming that it should have “broken” United States to show | several years ago. He said there is little known in this country of the manner in which the League of Na- tions covenant was twisted and dis- torted and the insides torn out by European diplomats to conform to their plans and to thwart the efférts of the Americans who presented it. Mrs, Mabel Walker Willebrandt, who introduced the speaker, praised the President for his ability to re- frain from extensive speaking. Pres- ident Coolidge is not promising to do anything other than his duty, is not ‘offering a lot of panaceas and is slow and deliberate in “the sprints,” making him a safe leader over a long period, she said. The miser is as much in want of what he has as of what he has not. VOICES GERMAN DEMANDS. Chancellor Says Colonies Should Be Restored. BERLIN, October 28.—Chancellor Marx, addressing a meeting of the Centrists yesterday, voiced the de- mand that her colonies should be re- stored to Germany, so that raw mate- |8 rials could be obtained in exchange for her manufactured goods. The chancellor described Germany's responsibility for the war as a “fairy tale” Germany, he added, only wished to be freed of this charge on moral grounds. He declared that the bulk of the German nation simply desired to work in peace. ERE is instant relief from that burning corn — the new way.
