Laird Director of Research THE PALAIS ROY AL ~ Dr. Wilired N. Barton, in his instruc- tive book “The Road to Washington," calls attention to the fact that the District of Columbia has grown twenty-three fold in population in the last one hundred vears, while the whole country, in the same length of time, has grown only seventeen fold. . This is good news for all who are in- terested in a bigger and more prosperous city. The growth of Washington has not been sporadic and abnormal, but steady and continuous. : Washington business men are in- creasingly optimistic in their vision and prophecy of the future economic condi- tions of their city. Every day Washington becomes the “mec for new families, who are at- tracted here because of the city's natural beauty. varied social life, and business possibilities for the enterprising leader. Washington is now in a healthy busi- ness condition. It is interesting to know that there is one automobile for every four inhabitants of. the District. For a few months business has been somewhat be- low par. but that condition is changing for the better. Recent Political Events have tended to create confidence, the stock market is on the rise, rails especially are increasingly active in the right direction, the weather is clearing up, and as a result buying is being stimulated. Because The Palais Royal is sharing, with other enterprising business institu- tions, the benefits of the growth of Wash- ington, it faces both the present and the future with nothing but the fullest confi- dence in the constant progress of this great city—the center of America’s politi- cal life and the world’s most influential capital. We are now in the midst of the great PROFIT - SHARING SALE and for three days thousands of Washingtonians have been taking advantage of the oppor- tunity to buy merchandise at prices which. for the most part, are the lowest they have been in a number of years. A casual observer of the patrons that have been thronging The Palais Royal during the first three days of this sale can not fail to see by their very manner that they are pleased with the wonderful values they are getting for their money. This is not the time for the pessimist to growl. It is the hour for the man who can think straight to measure an unsual opportunity with vision, skill and venture. There is light in the business sky.
