Haskell, former police- man, who pleaded gullty to & charge of blgamy, was sentenced today by Justice Hoehling in Criminal Division 2 to serve two years in the penitenti- ary. Haskell married & woman in Pennsylvania July 17, 1920, and with- out the formality of a divorce went through a marriage ceremony with a Washington girl December 15, last. John Royal Oak, who violated the anti-narcotic law, was sent to the penitentiary for fhree years. Terms of two years each wers given Muriel Taylor, Cottrell Willls and Wilbur Alexander, all colored, on charges of housebreaking and larceny, James Turner, colored, received a. sen- tence of eighteen months for steal- ing an automobile. One-year sentences were imposed on Eric B. Cissel, who passed a worth- less cheok; Walter Oliver, for larceny, and James Powell, colored, for an assault. Cissel was pl on proba- tion. Grant, chief of detectives, who is critically ill at his home, 62 Bryant street northwest, appeared a trifle brighter and his temperature was several degrees low- er than yesterday. J., March 2L—Fred- eorick Charles Gordon, decorative ar- tist of the Century Magasine and prominent among members of his profession, was found dead in his studio, High Orchard, at Mountain- side, near here, yesterday, it was learned today. Heart trouble was given as the cause by county authori- ties. Mr. Gordon also won a reputation as an oil painter. Laughlin of 1628 Creseent place, was today selected by President Coolidge to be minister to Greece. The appointment of Mr. Laughlin, who has had a number of years' ex- perience in the diplomatic service of this country, was made ypon the rec- ommendations of Senators Pepper and Reed of Pennsylvania and Senator Moses of New Hampshire. Mr, Laughlin, who has been a resi- dent of Washington for several years, is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., his family for generations having been prominent in the steel industry. He entered the diplomatic service more than ten years ago and for several years was secretary of the American legation at Athens, serving under Senator Moses, who was then min- ister. p: Wolfe Lindenfeld Held.
